What Sort of Boiler?

Standard, non-condensing boilers are run on a variety of fuels, including solid fuels. Modern fan-assisted boilers have good heat efficiency, but if your boiler is more than 15 years old you may find that you make substantial savings on your heating bills by installing a modern version. Condensing Boilers:
For maximum efficiency and economy, a condensing boiler is the best choice. It is designed so the water passing through the boiler extracts heat from the flue gases, which normally will be lost to the atmosphere, before entering the heat exchanger. That means less fuel needs to be burned to bring the water up to the required temperature. As the flue gases are cooled, any water vapour present condenses out and is discharged through a small drainpipe. Gas and oil versions are available, as are, combi-condensing boilers.

Combi-Boilers:
If you are in a small property were it will be difficult to find space for a hot water cylinder, a combination boiler is for you. A Woolwich Plumber can fit a combi-boiler.This contains two heat exchangers, one for the central heating, the other to act as an instantaneous water heater. It is connected to the mains and is capable of supplying all the hot taps in the house. Both hot and cold water, come out of the taps at mains (high) pressure, although the hot will run more slowly when more than one tap is opened. There can also be water wastage caused by the delay between turning on a hot tap and the water heating up. Fluctuations in shower temperature can be prevented by installing a thermostatic mixer shower. Gas and oil combi-boilers are available, as are condensing models.

Back Boilers:
A back boiler is fitted behind a radiant fire, burning either gas or solid fuel. In gas-fired versions, the boiler may be operated independently of the fire, but in solid-fuelled versions, the fire must be lit for water to be heated
